Those of you that follow my Wonder in your Woman series know that “all by myself” is a phrase I GREATLY celebrate! Why? Well, because stereotypically, women are not supposed to be able to accomplish certain things alone. Everything from fixing things around the house, mowing the lawn, making financial investments, buying a house, or going on a dream vacation are things we are led to believe we need someone else’s help with (usually a man) to be able to accomplish. This is simply not true.
Now, I’m not man bashing….not at all.
In fact, those of you that have a supportive husband or partner are blessed and in a great position to accomplish most, if not all of your dreams. However, in my single mom life these past couple of years, I have discovered that not only can I accomplish ALL my dreams (by myself) but that it’s not as hard as I once thought it would be.
As I’ve shared before, I keep a monthly journal where I note and celebrate all things (big or small) that I have accomplished in the previous month. In doing so, I find myself in a constant state of Gratitude, Growth and Grace.
–Grateful to G-d for all the opportunities and things I’m accomplishing
–Growing as an individual AND
–Grace-filled in my journey
So this summer I was able to do something -here comes that phrase again – all by myself , that I’m extremely proud of.
Drums please!!!!! So number one on my accomplishments list for July was our family trip to Egypt. My hearts desire for several years now had been to treat my girls, (and myself 😊 ) to what I consider a magical trip, but had not been in the position to do so. Well that all changed this summer as we ventured off and were able to see a part of the world that we had only seen in coffee table books. We spared nothing! Everything from a private tour guide, to a private chauffer, to the best places to stay in the country, hot air balloon ride in Luxor, Pyramids of Giza, camel trekking on the Sahara, Nile river cruise, the Mediterranean sea, the Red sea, historical sites, and the best eats made this trip nothing short of spectacular!
And as I wrote this down in my journal, and looked through the fabulous pictures we took, I can’t tell you how empowered I felt. To know that this was something that I made happen and was able to provide for my girls…All by Myself!
I share this story with all you mommas, single ladies, and even those married ones to get you to realize that its amazing the things we can accomplish on our own once we set our minds to it. And all it took from my end was a journal, a dream, a plan, and a little bit of faith.
What big things are you looking forward to accomplishing?
