I don’t remember ever taking logistics in school but it was certainly amongst the courses offered. It never called my attention back then and I can’t say that much has changed. I mean, figuring out all the little details of anything has always been tedious work for me. Yet at the same time the little details are what make up the big picture.
Just this weekend the Jensing and I were analyzing our options of schooling for Sky as she gets ready to go into high school next year. Boy oh boy, was that a process! The choice as far as which school was a better selection was quite obvious, but did I get stuck in the logistics of this decision or what?! Transportation, school hours, after school activities etc. By the end of our conversation I was drained!
Of course these are things that need to be thought out and planned, but is there such a thing as too much planning? Well I suppose that would depend on whether or not we step from planning into control.
This morning, in keeping with the planning overload we experienced yesterday, it seems I woke up ready for round two. The only difference was that I switched subjects. I found myself beginning to worry about an event I will be attending later this month -over which details I have no control-, and wondering about how I could make sure every specific would function according to my satisfaction.
This was control at its finest working undercover as planning.
I quickly caught myself and that’s when it hit me, “Just Show Up”.
I mean, after all, who died and made me the Event Planner for every single affair in life?!
You see, as much as I’d like to know how every aspect of anything I am remotely involved in will work out, sometimes it’s not for me to know.
It was then that I remembered that I have a fulltime Event Planner on staff that is there to work out all the factors of all my occasions and I simply have to …show up.
-Life is certainly easier when someone is working out the details for you!
Have a Blessed Week!
Rosie – It is such a fine line isn’t it? between planning and control….I too like to know the details, and can often find myself getting worked up over what may or may not happen – as you have said, all things I can not control. Thank you for the great reminder that God is the greatest event planner ever – i just need to trust Him… thanks for sharing today at #Reflect link-up.
Hi Debbie. Yes!!! He is best Event Planner 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
Nice Rosie! Love the Event Planner. He’s the best one a person can have huh? Now if we can just keep our hands off.
Yes absolutely BEST event planner ever! LOL. Thanks for stopping by.
Rosie: Your thoughts here remind me of a verse in Proverbs: “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” (Prov 16:9). 🙂
Yes, very good discernment Lyli. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Yes! And I’m slowly learning that I am not God’s Northeast Representative!
That is very funny Michele. Nor am I His Southeast representative as much as I’d like to be! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.
I am a planner too and often get bogged down in trying to make all the details work out. But then, life happens and often all those plans explode and I’m left stressed out and frustrated. It’s then that I need to do exactly what you said here… that is, back up and realize that the Great Event Planner has it all worked out. Since He’s controlling ALL things, I can ‘cast my anxiety on Him’. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing Karen. It’s good to know He is in control and we don’t have to figure it out all by ourselves 🙂
Life is easier when someone is working out the details for us. I love that Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” God is so, so good to his children. Thank you for the reminder that we need to just show up!
Yes! It truly is that simple…Just Show Up. We make it more complicated. When He is in control there is nothing to worry about.
A hearty amen to that and HIM! #55 neighbor at Jennifer’s today!
Thanks for stopping by Susan.
Hi Rosie,
I’m visiting from Coffee for your Heart — nice to meet you! I enjoyed your thoughts on planning vs. control since I think I’m a borderline control-planner (is there such a thing?!) but since that’s not usually possible, I’m learning to leave those things up to God and take the next step forward! 🙂
LOL! I like that Valerie, “borderline control-planner”. Its when we take our hands off of a situation completely that He can come in and work. Easier said than done. Its great to connect with and thanks for stopping by. 🙂
I love the details and the planning, but I don’t like to get bogged down with logistics, either. I also have a hard time with keeping the plan always together, because the reality is it doesn’t always GO as planned so that means we have to have a plan ‘B’. 🙂 Actually, I am pretty much a fly-by-the-seat of my pants gal and when I go with the flow it is because I know that He’s got it all in His hands. Thankfully, we do have an event planner who has our good and His best involved.
This is the first time I have visited your little space here, and I love that your heart is to speak into the heart of women and lead them to triumph. Beautiful. 😉
Blessings,
Dawn
Thank you Dawn! I’m excited that you stopped by and checked everything out. I am learning now to just go with it and know He has got it all figured out. It’s a conscious effort to keep myself in check but well worth the peace that trusting Him this way fills me with. I appreciate your comment! Be Blessed 🙂
Love this Rosie; boy can I relate!
As a “closet control freak” Hidden under the guise of “planning” as you stated. I am striving to seek God’s direction and then plan:) it is definitely a struggle but I’m getting better. I like the fact that it takes the “pressure” of me and I enjoy my time with those close to me instead of having to “stay on schedule”. I know it is a process but like you said the Almighty EVENT PLANNER will take care of everything for His children as we seek Him! Thanks for sharing from your heart. Have a wonderful weekend and may God bless you and yours!
I like that Horace…”seek God’s direction and then plan. It takes some work but is always the better choice. hanks for sharing Horace, I appreciate your thoughts.
I’m not too much of a planner for certain things. 🙂 I loved the honesty behind this and the accepting that we sometimes just have to show up. Thank you for sharing with Thankful Thursdays.
Thanks Lori. I appreciate your comment.
